Joachim Schlese as guest on MDR Sunday Brunch
Joachim Schlese during rehearsals at the Kulturpalast
Five decades! A golden anniversary, so to speak! There is probably no other man who founded a festival and shaped it over 50 years, making it successful and highly sought after. None except Joachim Schlese, the driving force behind Europe’s largest Dixieland festival, which should actually now be celebrated in Dresden with hundreds of thousands of guests. The big anniversary celebration has been postponed by exactly one year - but the MDR SACHSEN Sunday Brunch is marking this unique occasion all the same.
In the end, though, it is the Dixieland Festival that never let him go and that he never wanted to let go of: his baby, his passion. More than a hundred bands from all over the world apply every year; Joachim Schlese can choose and pick the best ones, the surprising ones, the innovative ones. How he built up this success over the decades and saved it through every upheaval - that is also part of the story this man has to tell, a man with whom one can look behind many a curtain, who knows and loves the world of music because he has always lived music.
