A bridge-builder between classical music and jazz
On the death of Gunther Emmerlich
It is with profound sorrow that we bid farewell to Gunter Emmerlich, an outstanding artist who, as a bridge-builder between classical music and jazz, also gave very special performances at the INTERNATIONAL DIXIELAND FESTIVAL in Dresden. His unmistakable contribution, especially with the "Semper-House-Band", will remain unforgettable in our hearts and in the history of this unique festival.
Gunter Emmerlich was not only a virtuoso musician, but also a charismatic entertainer who enchanted audiences with his sharp-witted wordplay. His performances were always highlights, in which he charmingly crossed the genre boundaries between classical music and jazz, and succeeded in masterfully blending his "opera bass" with the traditional sounds of Dixieland while captivating a broad audience as a compère.
His performances at the INTERNATIONAL DIXIELAND FESTIVAL make Gunter Emmerlich an integral part of our long festival history. His musical dedication and tireless commitment contributed significantly to the vibrant atmosphere that distinguishes our festival. With his passing, the Dixieland Festival stage loses a brilliant artist who won over audiences not only with his music but also with his captivating personality.
In these difficult hours of farewell, we would like to express our sincere condolences to his family and friends. May the memory of his musical legacy and his unique artistry bring comfort. We will remember Gunter Emmerlich with great respect.
