A promising start to the new year!

Good news for visitors to the 52nd Dixieland Festival

Post from Monday, 15 January 2024

Until the end of last year, there were no meaningful conditions that would have made it possible to stage our entire “Dresden Jazz Mile” and the big “Dixieland Parade.” But now there is new and good news for all visitors and guests to Dresden regarding the 52nd INTERNATIONAL DIXIELAND FESTIVAL in May 2024.

We are delighted to report that, after discussions last week, the outlook for the popular free-admission jazz events in the city center is promising. The central venue will be the stage at the Dresden Spring Market on Altmarkt. In addition, by March we hope to install further stages on Prager Straße and/or at Dr.-Külz-Ring. We are also beginning planning for the Dixieland Parade, albeit rather cautiously for the time being. Due to the many parallel events in Dresden, however, the route will have to remain quite short.

This is the outcome of a consultation on January 9, 2024. With the representatives present from the Altstadt district office, public order office, market office, economic development office, road and civil engineering office, and the office for culture and monument protection, we have strong partners at our side who are committed to preserving these traditional events, popular far beyond Dresden, and who will support us with the extensive logistical and financial requirements. Particularly gratifying is that sustainable solutions for the upcoming festivals were also discussed, which for us constitute an indispensable planning basis for these elaborate events for everyone.

We will be able to announce all details regarding the “Dresden Jazz Mile” and the “Dixieland Parade” by the end of March. However, some changes and restrictions to the program should be expected due to the density of events on Pentecost weekend (Dresden Music Festival, events at the Frauenkirche, concerts at Rinne Dresden, among others). Most importantly, there will also be free-admission concerts in 2024!
