Parade canceled — Dixieland all the more now!

Post from Wednesday, 13 May 2026

Anyone who comes to Terrassenufer or the Brühl’s Terrace this Sunday will experience Dixieland not as a festival backdrop, but as a statement.

The Dixieland Parade 2026 will not take place. What will happen on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at 4 p.m. on Terrassenufer is something else: a gathering with musical protest, registered by the Förderverein Jazztradition Dresden e.V., at the same time and in the same place where the parade has ended the festival as its highlight since 1978, with bands that have traveled to Dresden במיוחד for the parade.
The INTERNATIONALE DIXIELAND FESTIVAL Dresden supports this gathering and passes it on to its audience and the media.

Music, attitude, demands

The ensembles that will musically support the gathering on Sunday afternoon at Terrassenufer were scheduled for the parade. That they will now not march through the Old Town changes nothing about their music. It changes the context. They have not canceled their trips. They do not have to do without the corridor of applause the bands would have received along the parade route. Anyone who knows the parade and expected it will find the music they have been waiting for at Terrassenufer. Anyone who would have stayed home because of the cancellation and now wants to make a statement will find the right place there. For this gathering, the Förderverein Jazztradition Dresden e.V. has secured voices from business, the life of musicians, and the event industry, who will take a stance in short statements. The motto is clear: “If the authorities sleep, there’ll be no Dixieland.”
